Our Fishing
Nestled by Drift Reservoir, our club brings anglers together to share stories and perfect their fly fishing
We are proud to provide year-round fly fishing at Drift. Even in the depths of Winter, the fishing can be excellent as we continue to stock throughout the Autumn and Winter, so it’s usual for our Rainbows to be regularly caught around Christmas time and New Year period!
Traditional wet flies, imitative patterns and lures all take their share of Trout at Drift, whilst dry fly fishing in the warmer months can be spectacular. Whether fooling wild Browns on gnats or skimming a Daddy Longlegs across a wind lane, the dry fly fishing at Drift can be outstanding!
Bank Angling
The banks and pathways are cleared and maintained by ourselves, with very good back-cast room in most areas with a number of steps to enter the water. Much of the bank space is open with the odd seat to rest and enjoy the scenery. Toward the top of the reservoir, the wooded area provides a haven for terrestrials, enhancing surface fly fishing at a number of access points. The dry fly fishing in this area can be fantastic, especially for Brown Trout.
Float Tubing
Unlike many waters a cross the South West where float tubing has been banned or heavily restricted, our Club has a healthy float tube following, practicing the BFTA Buddy System. This provides access to all areas (except the Western bay which is a Nature reserve and out of bounds). Float tubing provides a very low profile on the water, affording amazing short range presentation opportunities. Especially good when following wind lanes and casting to cruising fish on the feed. If you haven’t tried float tubing before and keen to have a go, there’s usually a spare tube to lend to new members who are keen to try it out!
Boat
For those who wish to venture out and cover more water with some company, we have a Club boat, complete with motor, anchor, drogue and floatation jackets which can accommodate two anglers. Our boat is moored on the pontoon next to the boat house. Use of the boat is included with full season membership.
